AGDER: Sofie Fjellvang (21), who made her breakthrough with her participation in the TV 2 program The Voice last year, is among the artists fighting to become Norway’s contribution to the international Eurovision final in Turin later this spring.

Fjellvang, who is from Dueknipen in Kristiansand, will participate with the song «Made of Glass». Fjellvang has collaborated on it with composer and artist Kjetil Mørland from Grimstad. Kjetil Mørland won MGP in 2015 with the song “A Monster Like Me” which he performed with Debrah Scarlett.

Sofie Fjellvang will be in the last, fourth semi-final on 5 February.

– Joining MGP is an insanely big dream that has already come true for me, the twenty-one-year-old says during the press conference.

– Eurovision is the coolest thing I know. Several countries in Europe that compete with a song no one has heard before, I think is an invaluable concept.

– Absurd and a lot of fun

Another southerner on the list of participants among the total of 21 artists in this year’s MGP is Steffen Jakobsen from Grimstad. He will sing the song “With Me Tonight”

The 31-year-old got his breakthrough when he came in 3rd place in Idol back in 2013. He will perform during the second dolphin final on 22 January.

– What’s cool about MGP is that you are allowed to be yourself and do things you are remembered for, said Jakobsen when his song was presented.

– It will be a completely new experience, and a new chapter for me. It’s absurd and a lot of fun that I’m here today and can do a song that I’m very proud of, he concludes.

Other participants include artists such as Mira Craig, Alexandra Joner and Christian Ingebrigtsen.

Want Eurovision back in Norway

MGP general and project manager Stig Karlsen in NRK said during the press conference that the public can expect the highest quality:

– Music is the foundation of it all. We have relieved with lantern and magnifying glass, arranged MGP camps, called all the good producers, songwriters and artists.

He is very enthusiastic about this year’s MGP contribution:

– It is a real pleasure to be able to give the people a New Year’s package with songs and artists. We have world-class vocalists with songs that can claim the top of the world, he says and leaves no doubt as to what the goal is:

– We want to take the world’s largest music event back to Norway.

In December, it became clear that the Melodi Grand Prix will have to carry out the broadcasts without the audience present in the hall. This applies to all semi-finals and the Last Chance which should have been in the time period 15 January to 12 February.

It is not yet clear whether the audience will be allowed in during the MGP final.
