Southampton rewards manager Hasenhüttl with new contract | NOW

Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl extended his contract with Southampton for three years on Tuesday. The 52-year-old Austrian is now with the Premier League club until mid-2024.

“This was an easy decision, because of the relationships I have built up with the club, the players and the fans,” Hasenhüttl said on the Southampton site. “We have the same philosophy and that is an important reason why I want to stay here longer.”

The former coach of the German clubs SpVgg Unterhaching, VfR Aalen, FC Ingolstadt and RB Leipzig came to Southampton in December 2018, succeeding Mark Hughes.

The first Austrian manager in the Premier League, who came to eight international matches as a player, saved ‘The Saints’ from relegation last season by leading his team to sixteenth place. Southampton is currently fourteenth.

“Ralph has had a positive impact on the club from the first moment,” said CEO Martin Semmens. “We believe his vision will bring success to the field. I never doubted he’s the right man to lead Southampton.”

The Premier League has been on hold for almost three months because of the corona crisis. The English league will most likely resume in two weeks.
