European Union (EU) members have backed a ninth package of sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, several EU diplomats announced on Thursday.
The new sanctions will target, among others, banks and further restrictions on trade will be applied.
The agreement, unanimously adopted by the 27 EU countries, has yet to be officially approved.
The EU approved an eighth round of sanctions in October, which included new restrictions on trade in steel products and technology.
