‘Source code of Watch Dogs Legion is online after hack at Ubisoft’ – Gaming – News

The source code of Watch Dogs Legion is said to have been put online. It concerns 560GB of data. Earlier in October, a ransomware group said it had broken into Ubisoft computers. The group threatened to disclose the source code of a Watch Dogs game.

The collection of files is according to DSO Gaming distributed through various private trackers. Also on reddit users discuss the online appearance of the source code. It is currently not possible to say with certainty what the source of the leak is and why the files were put online.

The online release of the source code of Watch Dogs Legion follows a few weeks after ransomware group Egregor claimed to have broken into Crytek and Ubisoft. In mid-October, the group said against ZDNet stolen data from Ubisoft. The purpose of this was to extort the publisher, but Ubisoft would not have responded to contact requests. Egregor then threatened to release the source code of Watch Dogs and the engine.

If the game’s source code is actually online, it could allow developers to make changes. With that, mods could become a possibility, or copy protection could be circumvented. Ubisoft has not responded to the alleged break-in.

Egregor told ZDNet that the group has encrypted files at Crytek and is asking for a ransom. The group would too have put Crytek files online, with details about games that are or were in development. It discusses, among other things, a battleroyal game Crysis Next, Crysis VR, a new Ryse game and remasters of Crysis 2 and 3. Whether those documents are real is not known.

Tweakers published one at the beginning of this week review van Watch Dogs Legion.
