Sorry! There is no Hilal yet, 0% car tax is just a discourse

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Ministry of Finance admits that there has been no decision to implement the proposal from the Ministry of Industry regarding tax exemptions on new car purchases.

Head of the Fiscal Policy Agency (BKF) Febrio Kacaribu explained, until now his party is still calculating what the impact could be if the tax relief on new car purchases is implemented.

In addition to the economic impact, Febrio admitted that his party was also calculating how much the car purchase tax exemption policy could have an impact on car sales itself.

“PPnBM on cars is still not. It is still being calculated, we will see the point of view, how much we will give. Then how much will this be able to drive car purchases, then how much impact will it have on holding down the correction of GDP growth [Produk Domestik Bruto], “explained Febrio in a video conference, Thursday (1/10/2020).

“We are still studying, we cannot announce it yet. When we have finished reviewing it, we will announce it,” said Febrio.

Previously, Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita asked Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati to reduce the 0% new car tax until December 2020.

“We have proposed to the Minister of Finance to provide a tax relaxation for the purchase of a new car to 0% until December,” Agus said in Kadin’s virtual National Coordination Meeting, Thursday (10/9/2020).

He said, efforts to zero the tax on the purchase of a new car could boost people’s purchasing power. The goal is to recover sales of automotive products that have plummeted during the Corona virus pandemic (COVID-19).

He explained that the manufacturing industry, especially the automotive industry, has a multiplier effect, starting from absorbing a large workforce and empowering other business actors.
