Sony will sell PlayStation 5 itself in Benelux – Gaming – News

Sony plans to sell its PlayStation 5 itself to consumers in the Benelux. In the United States, the manufacturer has been selling consoles directly to consumers since 2019, but that is not happening in Europe yet. This year that must change.

Direct sales to consumers generated a total of $ 200 million in sales for Sony in fiscal year 2020, the company reports presentation for investors. In 2021, this should increase to 600 million dollars and expansion in Europe should contribute to this.

In September 2019, Sony continued its PlayStation Direct-website on, for the direct sale of consoles to consumers, without the intervention of an external store or webshop. For the time being, this only happens in the United States, but this year there will be expansion to Europe. A slide mentions the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Ireland and the United Kingdom by name.

It is not yet known when Sony will start selling PlayStation hardware to consumers in the Benelux. It is also not yet clear whether direct sales will help solve the scarcity. In the US, where Sony already sells the PS5 directly to consumers, the company regularly allows a number of people to queue up to buy the console. Sony indicated earlier this month that the PlayStation 5 is still expected will be difficult to obtain until 2022.

Sony is following Microsoft and Nintendo in selling consoles themselves. Xbox and Switch consoles have been for sale in the Benelux for some time via the Microsoft Store and the My Nintendo Store respectively.
