Sony WH-1000XM5 has a completely new design and longer battery life

Two new headphones from Sony have been leaked and the perhaps more interesting version of the two is WH-1000XM5, where Sony has developed a completely new design. The previous WH-1000XM models are well known for the quality of the noise reduction and have been popular alternatives to the Bose Quiet Comfort.

The big change when it comes to the WH-1000XM5 is that Sony has developed a completely new design, while the older models have been minor improvements to previous products in the series. It’s not as big a change as Bose did when the company released the 700 series, which was a very big step in a new direction compared to their Quiet Comfort headphones. Sony has ended up somewhere in between, with a slightly more futuristic design while sticking to a more typical headphone design.

Unfortunately, not many of the specifications for the WH-1000XM5 have found out on the internet yet, but the new model is said to have 40 hours of battery life with noise reduction turned on, which is 10 hours longer than its predecessor. It takes half an hour longer to charge the battery, which is said to take three and a half hours if the charger can deliver 9 V. Charging is via USB Type-C and Sony still offers a 3.5 millimeter jack for the times when the battery runs out or Bluetooth connection missing. Bluetooth 5.2 is supported, but it is unclear if Bluetooth LE Audio is supported.

The other emerging model is called Linkbuds S but also goes under the model WF-LSN900 and is said to be yet another new variant of TWS (True Wireless Stereo) headphones from Sony. Linkbuds S is said to be a cheaper variant of the WF-1000XM4, which is Sony’s current flagship when it comes to TWS headphones. The design is similar, but perhaps not as refined. On the other hand, this is a completely ordinary pair of headphones and does not have much in common with the previous Linkbuds model, WF-L900. In addition to noise reduction and a sensor that detects whether headphones are used or not, there are also no technical specifications at present.
