With PlayStation controllers and in games in the West, the cross has been confirmed for years and round is going back. We don’t know any better either, but if you’ve ever played Japanese games, you know that the functions on those two buttons may have been reversed. After decades, Sony is moving away from this difference with the PlayStation 5.
From hands-on from Japanese media hear we that Sony now opts for a fixed standard and that is the same as what we are already used to. That means confirm and go back now use the same buttons worldwide. For us that will not make any difference, for the Japanese and Asians it may take some getting used to.
This also means that if you ever get Asian games from the Japanese PlayStation Store, or those from Hong Kong, for example, that the layout of the buttons in this area will soon be universal.
