Will Sony work on a successor for PlayStation VR? The truth is that, even before the announcement of PlayStation 5, there has been a lot of speculation about the possibility of seeing a “PSVR 2“in the future, although the Tokyo company has already made it clear in the past that there will be no successor to the helmet along with the launch of the console, leaving the door open for their arrival in the future. Well, a new job offer from Sony, found by UploadVR, confirms that the company works in a new vr helmet new generation.
The offer speaks of a new generation VR headset in current developmentTo be more specific, the job offer of the Sony portal mention that they are “developing a new generation VR headset“, for which they seek to make a team of 15 people who will be in charge of the mechanical design of the lens support for the optical system, as well as that of the external structure, which they describe as”small and light“, or the heat dissipation design for the device, among other sections.
Here are two important details to mention. First, the job offer comes from Sony Corporation and not from Sony Interactive Entertainment, better known as PlayStation. And the second, there is no mention of the name PlayStation VR anywhere, so it is not clear if it is a supposed PSVR 2 for consoles, or a separate product for a wider range of devices. Although the mention of a “new generation” seems to hint at some kind of PS5 compatibility.
In any case, it seems that we will have to wait a while to get out of doubt. The job offer mentions that the project has “a vision five years from now“, so it is a long-term bet.
