Sony confirms HDMI 2.1 functions 2020 oled and LCD LED TVs

Sony has been at CES 2020 last month newest televisions announced for this year, but the Japanese manufacturer was not yet able to confirm which televisions are exactly equipped with HDMI 2.1 ports or specific HDMI 2.1 functions. Meanwhile, Sony has indicated what we can expect.

To the colleagues of FlatpanelsHD, Sony has confirmed that two new LCD LED TV series are over HDMI 2.1ports. This is the ZH8 series with 8K resolution and the XH90 series with 4K resolution. The 4K models can display up to 4K at 120 frames per second, while the 8K models can display 8K at 60 frames per second. The ZG9 series introduced last year also features HDMI 2.1 with full 8K 60fps support.

In addition, the XH90 series is the first Sony TV series that has VRR (variable refresh rates) for a smoother gaming experience and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) for automatic selection of an optimal game mode. Both functions are released for the XH90 series via a firmware update.

The XH95 series and XH85 series LCD LED models, as well as the A8 and A9 series OLED TVs, come without HDMI 2.1 ports but have one function of HDMI 2.1. These TVs come with HDMI eARC (enhanced Audio Return Channel). With this, high resolution audio (Dolby Atmos, DTS: X, etc) can be sent from the TV to a soundbar or receiver.
