The brutal confrontation between Microsoft and Sony Due to the Activision/Blizzard acquisition problem, it has long since reached untold points. We all watch in shock as two wolves in sheep’s clothing make themselves ridiculously vulnerable to the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) as they try to get their way.
Crocodile tears
Both companies are dragging themselves before the proper authorities to prove that the power is on the other side. To Microsft’s claim that Sony’s exclusives are above and that Call of Duty is mediocre with no quality, Sony, in its terror of losing its war game franchise, a whole goose that lays golden eggs, replied that:
“Call of Duty is too ingrained for any rival, however well equipped, to reach. (…) Other publishers do not have the resources or experience to match their success”
This obviously refers to the Battlefield saga. They recognize the franchise IT’S AT cannot cast the slightest shadow on the giant of activision. To make matters worse, the figures from the latest installment bear it out. And Sony doesn’t hesitate to use those arguments against Microsoft. And is that Battlefield 2042 has sold solo 88.7 million copies vs 400 million of Call of Duty.
“To give a concrete example, Electronic Arts, one of the largest third-party developers after Activision, has been trying for many years to produce a rival to Call of Duty with its Battlefield series. Despite the similarities between Call of Duty and Battlefield, and despite EA’s track record of developing other successful franchises, the Battlefield franchise can’t keep up.”
Both companies are victims of a theater that those of us who have been around for a long time don’t believe at all. The ploy of trying to win over the gentlemen in robes with tears does not deceive the fans, who are freaking out from the stands at the public degradation of both multi-million pound clubs.
