Son (1) receives posthumous medal for deceased firefighter

With a teat in his mouth, little Harvey, who is 19 months old, got the pin. His father died two weeks ago when he was on his way to a fire. The fire truck in which he was driving was hit by a falling tree.

Died in burning forest

That happened in the middle of a burning forest. The car therefore got off the road. Three other firefighters were injured, Geoffrey and his colleague Andrew O’Dwyer died. Andrew, who will be buried next week, also leaves behind a 19-month-old son.

The medal of honor was awarded in the presence of dozens of firefighters and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison. The prime minister said he wanted to be present to “commemorate and thank the fireman for his services.”

On the coffin was a mug with the text: “Daddy, I love you to the moon and back!”

Thousands of firemen at work every day

Thousands of firemen have been deployed every day in Australia for months to combat forest fires. Many of them are volunteers. A total of 18 people have died as a result of the forest fires since September – just this week there are already seven in New South Wales.
