Something unprecedented: most children are looking forward to resuming school! – In harmony – Egoiste

Survey: more than 50% of students and 88% of parents expect full-time resumption of schooling

Parents are even more enthusiastic about the beginning of the school year – the majority or 88% have indicated that they want their children to return to school by resuming full-time studies. Pupils and parents from SOS Children’s Villages are also looking forward to returning to school, but at the same time, the association points out that preparing children for school is a financial challenge every year.

The survey reveals that most pupils are longing for full-time education, and 25% of parents say their children are very keen to return to school, as the distance learning process in the spring has increased the desire to socialize and learn in person.

In turn, 27% are convinced that children want to return to school in order to be able to be fully with their peers and attend interest groups. At the same time, 15% of parents of students have admitted that their offspring are waiting for the resumption of schooling in person no more than in other years, while only 8% of school-age children are not very happy about resumption of schooling in person or remotely.

Most parents are also waiting for their children’s school to resume in the usual, full-time mode. 62% of the surveyed parents are very eager for the offspring to go to school and resume full-time studies, because in their opinion, the support of teachers, as well as full participation in various groups is important for children’s development and acquisition of knowledge. Another 26% of parents state that they want their children to return to school in person, and highlight the possibility of students and the need to socialize with peers as a significant advantage of face-to-face studies.

Analyzing the survey data, she maintains that only 7% of parents partially want their children to start the new school year in person because they are worried about possible health risks.

Finally, 4% say they do not have a clear answer because they have learned to adapt to any situation.

* BITE The survey was conducted in July 2020, in cooperation with the research agency “Norstat”, and more than 300 parents with school-age children throughout Latvia participated in the survey.
