Carlsen was superior on the first day of the quarter-final duel against the American on Thursday, and on Saturday the classification continued.

After three games, Caruana was defeated. By then Carlsen had won two, while the rest ended in a draw. Thus, he won the day 2.5 against half a point.

The semi-final ticket could thus be acknowledged.

– The first couple of parties went very well. In the past I was a bit more “shaky”, but overall a pretty good day, Carlsen summed up against TV 2.

He was not very impressed with Caruana.

– In the last game he did not find the chances he had, and in the other games he lost largely without a fight. He was not on par with this match, and that’s what makes it one-way, “said the world champion.

Carlsen has created a lot of trouble for Caruana at the chessboard lately. Just two weeks ago, the American also had to be beaten by the Norwegian in the final of Clutch Chess International.

On Saturday, Carlsen put pressure on Caruana from the first moment. In the opening game, where the Norwegian had black pieces, the American got in trouble early. Still, he managed to save himself for a rematch.

In game two, however, there was no doubt where the victory came to end. Carlsen quickly acquired a huge takeover in the position, while Caruana fumbled for good receptions.

– This is one of the worst I have seen from Caruana ever. Absolutely terrible game, said chess expert Jon Ludvig Hammer during TV 2’s broadcast.

The party ended in a crushing victory for the Norwegian world champion.

Lost battle

In lot three, Caruana chose a surprising opening variant. It forced Carlsen to spend a lot of time initially, but throughout the party the trend reversed. Caruana couldn’t follow up on its own opening, while Carlsen found good moves.

After 35 moves, Carlsen had acquired a winning takeover, and eventually Caruana had to realize that the battle was lost.

Ready for the semi-finals is also Russian Jan Nepomnashchy. He made his quarterfinal match against Vladislav Artemiev on Saturday.

The semi-finals start on June 30 and are played over three days.
