Some LG TVs from 2018 are already compatible with the Apple TV app

LG has updated some of its 2018 TVs to give them compatibility with the Apple TV app, opening the entire Apple TV + catalog to more users. For now we do not know if the expansion is international, but we know that there are several countries where users have received the update.

Apple TV and AirPlay 2 and HomeKit coming soon

At the beginning of the year LG brought the Apple TV app to several models of televisions manufactured in 2019 in more than 80 countries and commented that 2018 TVs would also receive an update. Now this second update is materialized allowing users to access the Apple TV app from the applications menu. With this change we can enjoy all the content of Apple TV +, in addition to iTunes purchases or rentals, as well as the channels to which we can subscribe through the app.

For now LG has not communicated any details of this update, but if we take the 2019 TV update as a reference, we see that the compatible TVs include all OLED models, the NanoCell (SM9X and SM8X) and two UHD models (S79X and SM6X).

Continuing with the theme of 2018 televisions and their updates, let’s remember that they still need to receive an update important that, according to LG, would arrive by October 2020. With this we will see support for AirPlay 2 will appear as well as support for Homekit to “SK” and “UK” LED TVs and to “B8” to “Z8” OLEDs.

Apple tests its YouTube stream generating expectation about the date of the September event

It seems clear that smart TV makers have realized that offering support for new features to “old” TVs is the best way to keep their users happy and retained. Functions that initially seemed reserved for the most current televisions are coming, to the joy of many, to previous models.
