Somalia’s head coach, Nur Mohamed Amin has expressed his pride in the team’s performance at the TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Algeria, despite being knocked out at the group stage. The country, which is from the Horn of Africa in the CECAFA region, made their debut in a continental championship and managed to secure one point from three matches. Despite losing the final match to group winners Senegal in Constantine, Nur Mohamed Amin is proud of the team’s achievement. Somalia qualified for the tournament after winning the CECAFA regional championships last October, which has given them the hunger to come back again for future AFCON tournaments for the U20, U23 and even the senior teams. The confidence that the team leaves Algeria with is expected to transmit across all their national teams, as they look to remain on the high table of African football. Despite coming from a background of war and instability in Somalia, the team managed to secure a place at the tournament, and Nur Mohamed Amin is proud to have led them. This accomplishment is a success story that has inspired the Somali people and is a testament to the development of football in the country.
