Solskjaer warns Donny van de Beek: ‘No one was a substitute more often than I’ Football

sport">“I understand the frustration,” said the Norwegian coach on Friday. “Donny was ready to come on as all players should be. There has probably been no one at this club more substitutions and substitutes than me. I was not happy a few times then, but these are the decisions of the trainer.”

sport">Solskjaer has not addressed Van de Beek about his behavior, because he has behaved exemplary so far. “Donny has never negatively influenced his teammates,” said the former striker, who did give some sort of warning. “If we want to be successful together, we know we need positive energy. We can’t have grumblers. Once I see players negatively impacting the team, it’s a different story. Then I will probably react a bit more firmly.”

sport">Due to his reserve role at Manchester United, Van de Beek has also disappeared from the Dutch national team. The 24-year-old midfielder is not in the squad for the next two World Cup qualifiers against Latvia and Gibraltar.
