All the 500 soldiers in one of Sweden’s largest regiments have been sent home after being severely violated by officers and other conscripts.

During this week, the commander will undergo a crash course that will overcome the problem. The regiment has also appointed a working group to prepare a plan for how the education of conscripts can be carried out in a better way next year.

A letter to the conscripts that Dagens Nyheter has been given access to, also states that the regiment is struggling with a culture of silence, which has contributed to the problems not coming to the surface.

– Already during a visit in October, we could see that there was collective punishment and other irregularities. The problem has not been solved, even though conscripts have it very difficult after being subjected to violations by officers or other conscripts, says Olof Wärmländer in the Conscription Council, which is the conscripts’ organization.
