Soldiers from 17 Countries Participate in Knowledge-Sharing Exercise at Super Garuda Shield 2023

Soldiers from 17 countries take part in the Joint Exercise (Latma) Super Garuda Shield 2023 in Banyuwangi, East Java (East Java). This exercise becomes a sharing space (sharing) knowledge from the soldiers of various countries.

Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel show off their knowledge of saving themselves (survival) in the wild. The action was shown by Marines of the Indonesian Navy (AL).

Reported on site of the Marines of the Indonesian Navy, Monday (4/9/2023), Indonesian Navy Marine Corps soldiers shared knowledge with the Singapore Army and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) on how to survive in the forest (jungle survival). The exercise was held in the Selogiri forest, Kalipuro, Banyuwangi, East Java, Saturday (2/9).

Jungle survival is the science of surviving in an emergency by utilizing the natural surroundings in order to survive. The activity begins with giving material about what natural resources can be used to survive and how to process them in the forest.

After the provision of materials, soldiers Mariner TNI AL along with Singaporean and Japanese soldiers directly practicing how to catch and cook a number of wild animals, such as monitor lizards and snakes.

Jungle survival is one of the materials distributed in the 2023 Super Garuda Shield Latgabma (doc. Indonesian Navy website).

In addition, various types of forest plants are introduced which can be eaten directly (without having to be cooked first) and which cannot be eaten.

The Singaporean and Japanese soldiers were quite enthusiastic about following the training material provided by the Marine Corps Soldiers of the Indonesian Navy. Even though at first they seemed hesitant to try, they were finally able to try to process and eat the food they got in the Selogiri forest.

These activities are also aligned with the objectives of Latgabma Super Garuda Shield 2023 this time, namely in order to enhance multilateral inter-military cooperation between participating countries and positive military relations as well as develop and increase the ability to carry out joint function tasks.

Commander of the 5th Infantry Battalion Marines Lt. Col. Marines Supriyono, CTMP said the activity was aimed at re-sharpening the instincts of soldiers to be able to survive by utilizing the natural surroundings. He said that after receiving various kinds of material and training, Marine Infantry Battalion 5 soldiers were able to apply it in their real field of assignment.

“Mental and physical readiness is the main key to success survivor to survive,” said Marine Lt. Col. Supriyono military site.
