Solana announces closure of its physical stores in Miami and New York

Solana Spaces announced the closure of its store spaces in New York and Miami. The data is surprising judging by the time elapsed since its opening, only 7 months.

The effects of the crypto winter were decisive and, even more so, that lThe number of users received did not live up to expectations. One of the stores was launched in the New York neighborhood of Hudson Yards. Back in August they opened another space in the Wynwood district of Miami, a world-renowned sector for being a creative region with a varied cultural offer.

Through a announcement posted on Twitter, Solana Spaces shared a note from its founderVibhu Norby in which he essays an explanation of the reasons for the closure.

“We made the difficult decision to close our stores in New York and Miami at the end of February, and turn our Solana integration efforts into digital products like DRiP, our free NFT product with over 100,000 subscriptions. Our mission from day one was to experiment with new disruptive models to bring people to web3 and serve the community on behalf of the Solana Foundation.”

The numbers harvested by Solana Spaces were insufficient: barely 75 thousand people entered the store in the course of its seven months of operation. By contrast, Norby expected the store to draw more than 100,000 people to Solana a month.

“As great as the locals were, if we could find a more efficient way to attract people to Solana, we would work on it. And so to speak, I found it in DRiP. While our stores add 500-1,000 people a week, DRiP adds that same number EVERY DAY. Over the past two months, it has become increasingly clear to me that we were at an inflection point with our stores and our digital products.”

Solana wants to focus efforts on DRiP

In several passages of the Twitter post, the company mentions its intention to redouble efforts on DRiP. Is about a website where collectors or users have the ability to receive free Solana NFTsreleased weekly.

“A few weeks ago we put out the call to focus our continued efforts on DRiP. There will be more information about that plan soon. With this decision, we say goodbye to our US stores. However, the dream continues.”

The founder of Solana, at the beginning of 2022, commented on other objectives in which they will invest their energies.

“We plan to continue to support Solana IRL’s mission around the world by open sourcing both the software that powers Spaces and the brand and look forward to seeing people pick up where we left off. Second, we are in the process of identifying a place for people to pick up Solana products and participate in other IRL activities in New York and Miami.”

Norby, in addition to confirming the closure of the stores for February 28, added that the last week they will offer gifts and discounts on merchandise.

“This week is your last week to come into our stores, take one last photo and pick up your Solana merchandise. I have instructed our retail team to be very generous. So come by and get high-quality Solana gear for free, while supplies last and with some limitations. Do us a favor when you do: share a photo and what you got on Twitter so we can all enjoy the last week of Solana Spaces together.”

The shops of Solana, or Solana Spaces, allowed customers to participate in various activitiesfrom face-to-face tutorials on how to use a wallet to the chance to win rewards, purchase products and attend events.
