Sofia Chief of Police Reassures Citizens: Capital Safe Amidst Recent Criminal Incidents and Protests Against Migrants

“I don’t find any reason for people to worry. In the last 2-3 days, there have been some purely criminal incidents that happen quite often on the territory of the capital” – this was stated by the head of the SDVR ch. Commissioner Lubomir Nikolov, who came to the protest against migrants in Sofia.

“The capital is safe and year after year the number of crimes committed on the territory of Sofia is decreasing, the detection rate is increasing, so I want to reassure all the citizens of Sofia – it is one of the most peaceful European capitals,” said Nikolov.

The Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs: There is no connection between the two fights in the center of Sofia, there is also a fourth detained

He assured that the people who live around the refugee centers in Vrazdebna and Ovcha Kupel in Sofia can feel at ease. The perimeter around the refugee centers is guarded by the Ministry of the Interior, and inside – by private companies. “There is no aggression either from the protest march or from our side,” assured the head of the SDVR.

The protest started in front of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, continued as a procession along “Patriarch Euthymius”, briefly blocking the intersection with “Vitosha” Blvd., and then – the triangle of power. It is entitled “Migrants out of Sofia”, and its organization began after the three fights involving foreigners in recent days.
