The SPD attacked Jens Spahn (CDU) hard in the Bundestag on Wednesday. Söder took the CDU health minister under protection and turned the tables.
“Should the allegations not be true (…) it would have to be discussed whether Hubertus Heil can still remain in office,” said the Bavarian Prime Minister. He stressed that he could not judge whether the allegations were true, but he nevertheless trusted the assessment of Chancellor Angela Merkel, who clearly supported Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (both CDU).
Söder: “I’m really really disappointed with the SPD”
Söder also said he was surprised at the SPD’s approach – three months before the election. To act like this is “a tough number.” Söder made it clear: “I am really, really disappointed with the SPD. Incidentally, that is quite a mortgage for the cooperation after the election! “

The background to the debate is a “Spiegel” report about dealing with allegedly inferior corona masks ordered in China. According to plans by the Ministry of Health, masks that have not been tested to high standards should go to facilities for people with disabilities or to the homeless. After an intervention by the SPD-led Ministry of Labor, this was refrained from. Spahn had rejected the allegations, and calls for resignation came from the top of the SPD. Spahn’s ministry points out that the masks have been checked and fully functional.
