In Leipzig, in front of 8,500 spectators, Emil Forsberg (17th), Yussuf Poulsen (21st) and Amadou Haidara (51st) scored the goals for the home side, where ex-Salzburg Hwang Hee Chan came on in the 69th minute Celebrated debut for the “Red Bulls”. Jean-Philippe Mateta (48th) managed to equalize for the Mainz team, where Karim Onisiwo was in action up to the 87th minute.
Sabitzer suffered a thigh strain in the DFB Cup against 1. FC Nürnberg (3-0), but was recently able to train again without pain. Leizpig pushes the pace
Leizpig had no problems against harmless Mainz residents. Dani Olmo (4th) had the first chance to take the lead with a shot from the edge of the penalty area, which Robin Zentner parried. When Forsberg’s penalty kick – Olmo was previously brought down by Martins Barreiro – the Mainz keeper was powerless. Leizpig continued to push the pace. First, Poulsen headed in after a cross from Olmo to 2-0, shortly afterwards only the rod prevented another hit in a Forsberg-Schlenzer (31st).
Immediately after the restart, Mainz had their first chance to score – and took advantage of it: After a through pass, Mateta overran the Leipzig defense and pushed in against Peter Gulacsi, who had not yet been tested. But that didn’t change the game: just three minutes later, Haidara used a brilliant Forsberg template to make it 3-1. The attack by RB with chances every minute went on, only guest keeper Hundreds prevented an even higher goal yield of the home side.
Poor doldrums in Wolfsburg
There were no goals in the game Wolfsburg against Leverkusen. In front of 500 spectators, both the Wolfsburgers, supervised by Oliver Glasner, in which Xaver Schlager played through, and the guests in the first Bundesliga game after Kai Havertz’s departure to Chelsea did little.
Wolfsburg’s Maximilian Arnold hit the aluminum housing with a direct corner kick in the 32nd minute. At Leverkusen, Julian Baumgartlinger was only exchanged in the 85th minute, his ÖFB team-mate Aleksandar Dragovic was only on the bench.
