Status: 08/21/2021 5:25 p.m.

SC Freiburg defeated Borussia Dortmund on the second match day of the Bundesliga. VfL Bochum and VfL Wolfsburg also won, and there were two draws.

SC Freiburg – Borussia Dortmund 2: 1 (1: 0)

With the 2: 1 (1: 0) the Freiburg overtook BVB in the table on Saturday (21.08.2021). The goals for Freiburg were scored by Vincenzo Grifo with a free kick (6th minute of the game) and Roland Sallai (53rd). Dortmund benefited from an own goal by Yannik Keitel (59th).

The guests initially found the game well and were not deterred by the early goal they conceded – but BVB’s first chances to score remained unused. From then on, Freiburg also had opportunities and an exciting and even game developed. While Freiburg repeatedly came up with chances via standards or quick counterattacks, BVB sought their chance through a lot of possession, but could not make up the two-goal deficit.

Hertha BSC – VfL Wolfsburg 1: 2 (0: 0)

Hertha BSC lost the hard-fought game against VfL Wolfsburg with a 1: 2 (0: 0). For Berlin, Dodi Lukebakio (60th) signed the list of goalscorers, who scored with a penalty. Ridle Baku equalized for Wolfsburg (81st), before substitute newcomer Lukas Nmecha turned the game around shortly before the end.

The Wolfsburg team won the second Bundesliga three-point after their opening win in Bochum. In the first half in particular, VfL acted too harmlessly for a long time and could hardly put pressure on the Hertha defense. It was only after falling behind that the Wolfsburg team turned up and finally celebrated the away win. Berlin remains without a point after two games.

Eintracht Frankfurt – FC Augsburg 0-0

Eintracht Frankfurt did not get beyond a goalless draw when they met FC Augsburg. In a game with little chance, guest striker Florian Niederlechner had to be replaced early dazed after a clash with Frankfurt’s Martin Hinteregger (17th).

The Augsburgers defended compactly over the entire season and hardly let Frankfurt develop. Frankfurt, on the other hand, did not manage to use their playful superiority and created too few scoring opportunities.

VfL Bochum – 1. FSV Mainz 05 2: 0 (1: 0)

After more than 4,000 days without Bundesliga football in the home stadium, VfL Bochum celebrated a 2-0 (0-0) over Mainz 05. The Bochum lead was achieved by ex-Mainz Gerrit Holtmann (21st), who rounded several opponents in a solo from midfield, penetrated the penalty area and overcame VfL goalkeeper Mauel Riemann with a low shot.

Access Sebastian Polter increased for Bochum in the second round with a head (56th). In contrast to the last home win against RB Leipzig, Mainz did not find their line and only rarely played out dangerous situations so that the VfL victory was no longer in danger.

SpVgg Greuther Fürth – Arminia Bielefeld 1: 1 (0: 1)

After the crushing defeat at the start of the season (1: 5 in Stuttgart), Greuther Fürth scored the first point of the season with a 1: 1 (0: 1) against Arminia Bielefeld. For Fürth, striker Dickson Abiama missed several chances to take the lead, before Bielefeld struck with the first good opportunity shortly before the half-time whistle: Fabian Klos headed Cedric Brunner’s perfect cross (45th).

Shortly after half-time, captain Branimir Hrgota scored the well-deserved equalization for the Fürth with a hand penalty – Manuel Prietl had previously got the ball in his arm. In the 68th minute of the game, Bielefeld’s Alessandro Schöpf saw the yellow-red card after he had committed a tactical foul.
