That has happened before: of course for the first showing in 1997, but also in 2012. Then the 3D version of the disaster film meets heartache epic came to the cinema. Technology specialist and director James Cameron has now gone one better: the lovers Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet) are now gliding in 3D and in ultra high definition including HDR and high frame rate through the ocean onto the fatal iceberg too, who will dramatically put an end to their great love, cross-class.

The film has always been a work of superlatives. With a production cost of 200 million dollars, it has grossed 2.2 billion dollars to date, which should increase considerably with the re-release of the extensively revised version. The film also made Leonardo DiCaprio a world star, and every film fan has known Kate Winslet ever since. James Cameron filmed twelve years later Avatar – Departure for Pandora just an even more successful film that has grossed $2.9 billion at the box office so far – and maybe Titanic will catch up in 2023?
“Avatar – The Way of Water” also still in the cinema
Fans not only of “Titanic” but also of mastermind James Cameron can use the theatrical return of their favorite film for a cinema happening lasting several hours with another of their favorite films and works by Cameron: “Avatar – The Way of Water” is also still running successfully in the cinemas ( $2.13 billion in global sales to date) and didn’t box office like we thought it would.
