So Switzerland is loosening up again

Unusual hustle and bustle on Monday morning in Lucerne’s old town: various cafés and taverns have prepared for the guests who can now come back outside for food and drink.

The “Mill’Feuille” on Mühleplatz had already prepared for the opening on Sunday, so that on Monday at 9 o’clock its terrace was furnished. Tables of four with due distance waited for customers. Signs indicated that a mask was required, and information on registration was stuck on the tables.

The “Heini” café on Falkenplatz was also getting ready. Employees carried tables and chairs into the square and discussed whether they should leave enough space for delivery vans that have to go to shops. Because catering is not allowed inside, the catering companies are allowed to use more outside space than usual.

Other restaurants that have little outside space can therefore also set up their furniture in parking lots. Apparently one of them is the “Da Luni” restaurant in Neustadt, where a parking ban is installed in a parking space in front of the restaurant.

There was still little going on earlier in the morning on the right bank of the Reuss. Only at the “Des Alpes”, which as a hotel had already catered for overnight guests outside, did four people sit down at a table – however, the waitress had to remind them of the mask requirement.

The staff of a café in the old town of Lucerne is preparing for the reopening of the restaurant terrace on Sunday, April 18, 2021.
