Snapchat will soon let you change username

The update will be rolled out worldwide next Wednesday for both iOS and Android. Changing your username won’t affect things like your friends list or reminders, writes TechCrunch.

Users cannot choose a name that has already been used by someone else. Not even if the user of that name has been inactive for a long time.

The option can be found via the Bitmoji menu, under ‘profile’. There you will find the option to change your name in the settings screen.

Username change requested often

It can sometimes be difficult in apps and on sites to change your username – when you might want to, for example if it’s a very old name that you grew out of. Parent company Snap says that many people had asked for the option.

Snapchat is doing well right now. The number of daily users rose to 293 million people last year. In 2020 that was still about 265 million.

Snapchat also announced other news this week. For example, it now partners with Ticketmaster to sell tickets to nearby events via the Snap Map.
