With the new “Snap Minis” feature, the social media group Snapchat offers third parties a platform for smaller, simple applications. A set of four mini apps is already available on Snapchat. These include the “Headspace” meditation aid, the “Flashcards” learning application, the “Prediction Master” game app and the “Let’s Do It” decision assistant.
Snpachat wants to be a “super app”
“Snap Minis is a new way for developers to integrate their services into Snapchat and offer new social experiences. We designed the minis so that they are deeply integrated into the conversations of the users », says Snapchat. With this innovation, the group wants to take up the concept of the “super app”, which is very popular in China in particular and serves as a platform for smaller services.
Headspace helps users meditate digitally with friends. Flashcards lets users learn languages from a distance as part of a team. Let’s Do It helps to make decisions in a group and Predicition Master asks users various questions to which they have to answer with the most accurate prediction possible. In addition to the four available minis, three other small apps are planned.
Tencent as a source of inspiration
Snapchat wants to involve its users more with different services without having to leave the app. The Chinese gaming group Tencent in particular has inspired the platform to make these changes. The popular Tencent application “WeChat” has more than one million mini apps on its platform. (pte / eh)
