Colorectal cancer or cancer of the colon (colon) and rectum (anal) is one malignant cancer and also the fourth most common cancer according to the Global Cancer Observatory in 2018.
Anyone can get colorectal cancer, especially the younger generation who do not maintain a healthy lifestyle.
“If it’s not indiscriminate. Whether it’s a man or a woman can be affected by the large intestine. Young people with an unhealthy lifestyle can get colorectal cancer,” explained cancer surgeon Dr. Fajar Firdaus in the webinar for Early Detection and Management of Colorectal Cancer, Sunday ( 13/3/2022).
Therefore there are many factors that can make a person affected by colorectal, especially if you are an active smoker.
“Smoking is also not only a concern for lung cancer, but other cancers because cigarettes are sucked into the oral cavity, into the lungs, and into the intestines,” added Dr. Fajar.
Apart from smoking, there are many risk factors for colorectal cancer that can be changed by lifestyle, but there are also factors that cannot be avoided.
1. Excessive Consumption of Red Meat and Processed Meat
Consuming meat is indeed a good thing, because it is a source of protein. However, consuming red meat and processed meat in excess is not good, especially if it is not cooked properly because it can trigger colorectal cancer.
2. Suffering from Recurrent Digestive Disorders
Factors that cause colorectal cancer are also often caused by repeated digestive disorders. Indigestion usually occurs because the body lacks fiber or an unhealthy diet.
“From childhood or from the beginning there should have been a lot of fibrous food,” he said.
3. History of Polyps
Polyps are usually benign and harmless. However, Dr. Fajar emphasized that if we were too late in knowing the development of polyps, they could become malignant and lead to cancer.
