Smart TV and streaming, Italy is growing but does not abandon the past

Smart TVs are rampant, but Italy remains anchored to a traditional vision of TV. This is the picture that emerges from the data collected and disseminated by Samsung in relation to the period of the covid pandemic, between January 2020 and July 2021. The analysis – which focuses on the behavior of users of Samsung smart TVs – has an international dimension: from the USA to Canada, from the United Kingdom to Germany, from France to Spain up to our country. In general, the pandemic has helped to take off the viewing of streaming content that has put the arrow compared to ‘linear TV’, the traditional viewing of a program on a channel. In America, in particular, the time spent by viewers watching streaming has doubled the linear model.

In the revolution also characterized by the growth of gaming, with the Smart TV as a game tool, Italy stands out for a double soul. The traditional viewing of programs is still a consolidated habit, given that the linear TV weighs an average of 1h52 ‘per day when using the device. Streaming, on the other hand, covers 1h22 ‘on average: the increase is 43% between June 2021 and January 2020, but the growth does not allow Italy to reach the European average, higher than 22%.
