BRATISLAVA – Stanislav Škorvánek has had an excellent season and an invitation to the national team was its logical outcome. The Michaloviec hockey goalkeeper joined the national team on Monday, completing the trio of Samuel Hlavaj, Šimon Latkóczy and Matej Tomek.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper helped Michalovci to an excellent result this season. Dukla was eliminated in the playoffs just before the finals in a seven-game battle with Košice, but in the quarterfinals they knocked out defending champion Slovan Bratislava.
“I still have mixed feelings, the elimination in the 7th match against Košice resonates in me. But the good ones also prevail, as I received an invitation to the national team. I believe that I will be an asset.” said Skorvánek.
In the playoffs, he had a percentage success rate of 94.92 percent in the quarterfinals, and 94.93 percent in the semifinals. He was the best in this statistic in both parts of the elimination round. Therefore, he deservedly received the invitation to the national team.
I’m glad to be here
“I focused on the club season, somehow I didn’t notice the national team. But I told myself that it could come. It pulled me out of those negative thoughts after the unsuccessful semifinal. I’m glad that I can be here and that they count on me. I know that the guys caught well against Switzerland. We’ll see how I do.”

Last year, Škorvánek caught the second highest Slovak competition, so his national team story is very interesting. “I’m glad to be here, if someone had told me that two years ago, I would have laughed at him.”
He already has one national team start, in December he made his debut in the national jersey at the Kaufland Cup Christmas tournament. In it, he scored a 6:1 victory in the match against Latvia.
It’s already a higher level
“I’ve caught a lot of matches since then, so it’s an advantage to come to the national team with more experience. But there are also other players than back then, it’s a higher level.” added the goalkeeper.
It is very likely that the four of Tomek, Latkóczy, Hlavaj and Škorvánek will fight for participation in the WC, since Rybár and Húsk will not start the championship.
“If both goalkeepers from the KHL were here, I wouldn’t be here. But the chance is now and it’s a chance for me too. I’ll definitely fight for it.” concluded Škorvánek.
