Slovak goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka aims to continue clean sheet streak in match against Iceland

ŠAMORÍN – Martin Dúbravka has not scored a goal in the jersey of the Slovak national football team in three consecutive matches.

He wants to extend this series also in the meeting against Iceland, with this opponent the Slovaks will play the third match of the European Championship qualification on Saturday. Dúbravka sees this match as very important, but not decisive. Dúbravka was also the unit in the previous qualification matches against Luxembourg (0:0) and against Bosnia and Herzegovina (2:0). He also added a clean sheet in the November preparatory duel against Chile.

“It would be great to go on a streak without conceding a goal. If we keep a clean sheet, we’re still in the game. But it’s not something I’m completely obsessed with. But of course, keeping a clean sheet will be important.” said the Slovak goalkeeper.

The setting for the match will be the same for him as in other duels: “I take every match the same, in my case nothing changes at all. It is an important match for the direction of our group. It may be key, but I see it like everyone else. We have to focus on us.

We have quality, we have been together for some time and we know what to expect. It will be about fights, they will probably kick balls, but they have a new coach and he has a new model of the game. Nothing easy awaits us, but I repeat, it will be about us and that’s what we want to focus on.”

After the match in Iceland, the Slovaks will present themselves in Liechtenstein, they want to get as many points as possible. Preferably six. Returnees Marek Hamšík and Milan Škriniar should also help them.

“I think everyone realizes what qualities they have. But it must be said that the guys who caught them by surprise gave a quality performance, especially in the match against Bosnia. But Marek and Milan know how to guide others, personally I am very much looking forward to them on the pitch.” added Dúbravka.
