The legend of Children’s Story has partnered with City Harvest and Feed Direct for an annual Thanksgiving distribution in the borough, hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
A contribution to the fight against food insecurity in the Bronx
A l’occasion de Thanksgiving, Slick Rick has partnered with FreshDirect, the Northeast’s leading online fresh produce grocer, as well as City Harvest, Bronx Borough Head Ruben Diaz Jr, Carl Heastie, State Assembly Member of New York, New York State Senator Jamaal Bailey, and New York City Council member Kevin Riley, to distribute up to 800 turkeys, side dishes and other produce to Bronx communities in his outfit. The annual event is part of food donations annuels « Give-Ember » by FreshDirect for the 2021 holiday season.
Rick took to Instagram on Thursday (November 25) and featured the event alongside members of Fresh Direct, grateful for the opportunity.“Give yourself for the community with gratitude”, he wrote. “Thank you to my BX partners @freshdirect @ruben_diaz_jr @northeastbronxymca @funkyharlemite @cheastie @jamaalbowmanny @ jamaaltbailey36 @kevincriley for teaming up for another year of giving. @victorypatchfoundation ”. A long line gathered around the YMCA of the Northeast Bronx for meals in the area and many of those who received turkeys walked away with a smile on their faces.
“This year, the need for help from businesses could not be greater. Helping through charitable initiatives is just one small step we can take to spread the joy this holiday season. We hope that through this joint effort, members of the community can enjoy a good meal on Thanksgiving ”, said Larry Scott Blackmon, vice president of public affairs at FreshDirect.
This distribution was the second known distribution of turkeys in the Bronx. Before Slick, Fat Joe had been to three locations, starting with his store Up Top de Mott Haven to give turkeys to those in need.
