Skoda will resume car deliveries to Ukraine. The local factory will join

Škoda Auto will resume deliveries to Ukraine in June. In the initial phase, 80 Škoda cars will be delivered to Ukraine. They will be partially disassembled, assembled at the Eurocar business partner plant in Solomonov, Ukraine. Škoda Auto Communications Manager Tomáš Kotera told ČTK on Wednesday. Due to the Russian invasion, the production of Škoda cars in Ukraine was interrupted.

The cars will be transported to Ukraine by a train in the form of a so-called SKD, ie Semi Knocked Down (partial pre-assembly). The engine, gearbox, front axle, rear axle, wheels, exhaust and, in the case of the 4 × 4 version, the cardan shaft are dismantled from the finished cars. Together with the body, it is packed into a pallet that travels for reassembly at the plant in Ukraine.

“In the initial phase, a total of 80 Škoda cars in the form of SKDs will be delivered to Ukraine. These will be SUV models Kodiaq and Karoq. A possible increase in the volume of production at the plant in Solomonov, Ukraine, will depend on the further development of the war situation, “said Kotera.

Skoda has production plants in Russia. In Ukraine, it has an assembly plant in Solomonov, where cars for the Czech carmaker are assembled by the Ukrainian company Evrocar, which suspended the production of cars after the beginning of the Russian invasion. The damage due to the invasion also disrupted all activities in Russia. It discontinued production at its Russian plants in Kaluga and Nizhny Novgorod, and stopped exporting cars to the country.

The Russian market is one of the most important Škoda markets in the world. In 2021, Russia was her second largest market. Škoda Auto sold 90,400 cars here. An impact on the company’s finances can be expected. In Russia, Škoda produces the Rapid, Octavia, Karoq and Kodiaq models. Three models are produced in Nizhny Novgorod, and Rapid is produced at the Kaluga plant.

Last year, Škoda Auto delivered 878,200 cars to customers worldwide, which is 12.6 percent less year-on-year. Last year, the carmaker increased its non-consolidated net profit by 48 percent to 22.41 billion crowns. The non-consolidated revenues of the parent company decreased by 0.4 percent to CZK 422.6 billion.
