Škoda is testing a new generation racing fabia beyond the Arctic Circle

The fourth-generation Fabia will also see its rally racing version. Like the two previous editions, it goes into the second strongest category.

After the asphalt and gravel tests, the racing department of the Mladá Boleslav carmaker headed for the snow and ice around Rovaniemi, Finland. During the five-day test, temperatures behind the Arctic Circle dropped to minus 14 degrees Celsius.

“The goal was not only to test the durability and performance of, for example, chassis parts and powertrain components in these harsh winter conditions, but we also had to make sure that the crew found a sufficient level of comfort in the car even in freezing situations,” explains Jan Krasula from Škoda. Motorsport adds that “for example, the windscreen must not be fogged and the temperature inside must not fall below a certain value”.

The big world rally names such as the reigning WRC2 and FIA World Champions, the European Rally Champion Andreas Mikkelsen from Norway, the winner of five WRC competitions Kris Meeke from Northern Ireland and the reigning Finnish Rally Champion Emil Lindholm also took part in the test.

It is not yet clear when Škoda plans to deploy a novelty on the competition tracks through customer teams.
