Skikda: The crisis unit continues its outreach work

Lhe crisis unit tasked with taking stock of the 25 fires that broke out in several municipalities in the wilaya of Skikda, continues its outreach work to this day. Centralized, information relating to the first damage observed in the most damaged municipalities – Bouchtata, El Hadaïk, Sidi Mezghiche and Oum Toub – is becoming scarce. Even if it is easy to deduce, at a glance, the extent of the damage caused by these fires, we cannot however estimate the seriousness of these disasters caused to this agricultural area par excellence.

Social networks teeming with information cannot assess the losses that hundreds of families had just endured, nor quantify their magnitude. One thing is certain, however: hundreds of families, still in shock, have already lost their only means of subsistence. Hundreds of families who should try to survive on ashen land by contemplating their charred henhouses, their destroyed herds, their ravaged food crops. They will have to learn to live again.

How many are these families and how do we plan to come to their aid, apart from the citizen assistance which continues to reach these municipalities? Approached on this subject, the director of social action (DAS) would like to point out that the work of the crisis committee is continuing.

“The work of this commission is multidisciplinary, as it encompasses several executive branches. We cannot communicate today a balance sheet, even provisional, to avoid possible oversights or omissions. We do not want to omit any citizen affected by these disasters and must also have reliable data in order to be able to estimate the aid to be provided ”, she told El Watan. Regarding the evacuated families, she will specify that they have almost all returned to their homes. “We evacuated 187 families in Bouchtata, Oum Toub and Sidi Mezghiche. Some preferred to leave their place of evacuation the same evening and others spent the night in the reserved centers before returning home the next day ”, adds our interlocutor. She will also share the great solidarity campaign experienced by this region of the wilaya and the aid operations brought to families in hamlets and other towns affected by the disaster. Our attempts to get further details about the early reviews were unsuccessful. At the level of the communication unit of the wilaya, we were content to give us the telephone number of the director of Social Action before promising to communicate to us, shortly, other information relating to the subject. Unfortunately, it is not.
