Ledecka is carried on hands in the Czech Republic.
Struggling with fate? No, few ski racers do that. No wonder: after all, they were able to do most of their season normally before the corona virus was forced to inactivity at the end of March. Not only the last World Cup races were canceled, but also the national championships. And the usual ski tests in spring fell into the water. “Everyone is the same,” said Michelle Gisin (26) last. Although she wasn’t quite right. Because: Ester Ledecka (25) is still training on snow!

The idiosyncratic Czech, who made history with gold in snowboarding (parallel giant slalom) and skiing (Super-G) at the 2018 Olympics, is busy traveling between the slalom gates with her team according to local media reports in the Cervenohorske sedlo ski area in northern Moravia. “We all adhere to all anti-coronavirus guidelines and I have to say that it was very good training,” says her trainer Thomas Bank.

From 6 a.m. on the slopes
You have to know: Ledecka is extremely ambitious, every year she wants to be on the slopes until the last possible day. She doesn’t know boredom, fatigue is usually a foreign word for her. After her Olympic gold medal, she said to BLICK: “I can’t get enough of snowboarding or skiing.” Ledecka gets up at 4.30 a.m. for her current training. From 6:00 a.m., you will be driving on a 700 meter long snow field. The power woman from Prague is transported upwards using a ski motorbike as all lifts are closed. At 9:30 a.m. the haunt is over again.

The effort could be worth it: In February Ledecka in Crans-Montana showed third place in the combination for the first time that she can also do slalom very well. Should she actually change into an all-rounder, the question would rekindle whether Ledecka would like to take on the double burden of skis and snowbards in the future.
