Six tons of rubbish collected from the Dresden Elbe meadows | free press

Dresden.

Spring cleaning on the Elbe: After a two-year Corona break, the traditional Elbe meadow cleaning in Dresden has paid off. As the administration announced on Wednesday, around six tons of waste and floating debris were collected. “Especially during the pandemic, the use of public green spaces has increased significantly. I am therefore pleased that the commitment of the citizens to cleanliness and the environment of the city is unbroken and I would like to thank the many small and large helpers for their commitment to Dresden’s green areas Salon am Fluss”, explained Mayor for the Environment Eva Jähnigen (Greens).

The cleaning action is done every year by volunteers. About 2,000 people had pre-registered this year. The city mailed them gloves and garbage bags. Garbage can still be collected in the coming months. Participants in the campaign only have to put the sacks in one of the wastebaskets on the Elbradweg.

In Leipzig, volunteers have so far collected more than 420 garbage bags full of garbage in 50 campaigns, as the city announced. The city cleaning department picked up almost twelve tons of mixed municipal waste as well as several electrical appliances, tires and pollutants. (dpa)
