Singing Hugo de Jonge in All You Need Is Love: ‘What is he doing in that program?’ | Show

In the last minute of the broadcast, a singing De Jonge came into the picture. The program is traditionally concluded with the Beach Boys classic God Only Knows. This time the song was performed by several artists such as André Hazes, Samantha Steenwijk, OG3NE, Orgel Joke and Hugo de Jonge also sang a part. The CDA member was not the only politician who came by in the Christmas show, Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema also showed her musical talents. The performance of Halsema and in particular De Jonge was not to everyone’s taste on social media. Many people do not understand what a minister, busy with all the corona issues, does in this program.

‘Do you remember? That wonderful ending to All You Need is Love (#AYNIL)? God only knows … What made you swoon and wiped away the last tear? That you think about what you have? This feeling has just been kicked into the ground. Thanks Femke and Hugo. ‘ Or: ‘A singing Hugo de Jonge. Christmas just didn’t need that. ‘

Last week, the healthcare minister was also singing in the news. De Jonge sang a bit in front of the microphone of program maker Jaïr Ferwerda White Christmas from Bing Crosby. At the same time, State Secretary Paul Blokhuis gave an interview about youth care at Ferwerda’s colleagues from RTL Nieuws. Blokhuis could not concentrate properly due to the singing De Jonge and the recording stopped.

Yet not everyone is negative about their singing qualities. ‘De Jonge sings a lot better than Femke Halsema. I liked it. People improve the world and start with yourself. Merry Christmas, also for the negative ones among you. ‘

The Christmas special was also viewed well. More than 2 million viewers saw how Robert ten Brink brought loved ones together for the holidays, according to figures from Stichting KijkOnderzoek.

The RTL 4 show was more popular than last year. Then the program attracted 1.87 million viewers. In the years before, the number of viewers was a bit higher, around 2.3 million or more.

At the same time, ‘Doctor Love’ Ten Brink faced competition from Kerst with the Meiland family on SBS6 (over 1 million viewers) and the documentary about Youp van ‘t Hek on NPO 1 (767,000).

The National Christmas Eve, later in the evening on NPO 1, scored fewer viewers. 529,000 people listened to the narration of the Christmas story by Joris Linssen, live from the Domkerk in Utrecht. On RTL 4, Beau & De Daklozen faced 819,000 viewers.

The most watched program of the evening was the NOS Journaal at 8 pm (2.2 million). The Smartest Man finished behind All You Need Is Love in third place (1.3 million).
