Singer Bobby Rydell has died – Novinky.cz

Rydell belonged to a generation of American teen idols after Elvis Presley and before the Beatles. He started to give concerts as a drummer at the age of seven, and at the age of 17 he shone in a talent singing competition. Between 1959 and 1964, thirty of his catchy singles reached the Top 40. The most famous were the songs Wild One, Volare, Wildwood Days and The Cha-Cha-Cha.

Rydell’s most famous musical character was the lead role in Bye Bye Birdie, which earned an Oscar nomination for music and sound. However, Rydell loved his native Philadelphia so much that he refused to leave it and move to Hollywood. His film career has never fully developed, writes AP.

The musical Pomáda, where the high school in which most of the events take place, is named Rydell High in honor of this musician, contributed to the popularization of his name.
