Singapore Breaks Covid Record Again, Highest in 1 Year

Jakarta, CNBC IndonesiaSingapore has recorded another new Covid-19 case. The number of new local daily infections, through 328 cases, Tuesday (7/9/2021).

This is the highest daily infection in more than a year. The city-state has now reported more than 100 domestic cases daily for the past two weeks.

“The 91 cases are related to the previous case and have been placed in quarantine,” said the Ministry of Health, MOH, on its website, quoted Wednesday (8/9/2021).

“52 were linked to previous cases and detected through surveillance and 185 (cases) are currently unconnected.”

In addition to local cases, Singapore also reported four imported cases. This brings yesterday’s total to 332.

In the past week, new cases in Singapore society have increased from 771 last week to 1,489. The total active cases currently number 2,436.

Yesterday a new cluster emerged involving Islamic madrasah schools in the Braddell Road area. In which eight cases were detected.

Previously, MOH was concerned about the exponential increase in cases in the country. Singapore’s Covid-19 Task Force Chairman Lawrence Wong said the country needed to take swift action to suppress cases and slow transmission.

He said as cases rise sharply there will be more cases in the ICU and more people dying from the virus. Therefore, Singapore will increase the frequency of tests, from once every two weeks to once a week starting next Monday.

Quotes Worldometers, Singapore has 69,233 cases of Covid-19 in total since the pandemic broke out in 2020. There have been a total of 55 deaths since the virus was detected.
