The businessman Sindika Dokolo, husband of Isabel dos Santos, died. The 48-year-old Congolese was in Dubai, where he suffered an accident at sea. Sources close to the businesswoman confirmed to Jornal Económico the disappearance of the husband of the richest woman in Africa and son-in-law of José Eduardo dos Santos.
According to several African media, Sindika Dokolo suffered a pulmonary embolism while diving underwater.
Sindika Dokolo has been married to Isabel dos Santos since 2002, with whom she had four children. He was the son of a Congolese banker and came to be considered the greatest collector of contemporary African art. In Portugal, he was a non-executive director of Amorim Energia and other companies where he was a shareholder, together with Isabel dos Santos.
Together with Isabel dos Santos, Sindika Dokolo was targeted in the Luanda Leaks investigation. This scandal revealed several irregularities in companies owned by the couple, even leading to the seizure of their assets by the Angolan Justice in December last year.
The information leak would have been the involvement of the hacker Rui Pinto and involved Sindika in the alleged diversion of Angolan public funds, mostly through Sonangol. The company was managed between June 2016 and November 2017 by the wife and daughter of the then president of Angola
