Simone Inzaghi: A Specialist in Finals with 7 Wins out of 8 Played in His Career

The Italian coach is a specialist in finals, with a record of seven wins in the eight he has played in his career and with a total of four successes as Inter coach.

Only Juventus, in the 2017 Italian Cup in his first year as a professional coach, has been able to knock out Simone Inzaghi in a final.

A coach who, although in long-term championships could not lift a trophy, is one of the most reliable when it comes to finals.

This Saturday, June 10, Inzaghi will play his first European final, in which the Manchester City de Pep Guardiola part as clear favourite.

But the ‘Nerazzurri’ rely on the statistics of their leader, an Inzaghi who wants to continue his record in the finals, to keep the Champions League dream alive.

The coach, in the two seasons he has been in Milan, has become the fourth coach with the most titles in the history of Inter with four trophies.

The most recent final he won was the Italy Cup against Fiorentina at the end of May, in which Inter came from behind thanks to a brace from Argentine Lautaro Martínez (1-2).

Also in this 2023 he won the Italian Super Cup with a win against Milan in a whole ‘Derby della Madonnina’.

They also won these two titles last season, on both occasions they defeated Juventus.

During his time as a technician at the Lazio (2016-2021), a team in which he played as a player before retiring, led another four finals and won three of them.

The only final that he has lost as a coach in his entire career was the first one he played. On May 17, 2017, he opened with a defeat against Juventus in the final of the Italy Cup, but he quickly took revenge with two Super Cups (2017 and 2019) in which he knocked down ‘Juve’ and a Italy Cup against Atalanta (2019).

Simone Inzaghi had to resign himself to living his entire career as a footballer in the shadow of his brother’s, Philip Inzaghibut as coaches the roles have been exchanged and it is now the ‘Pippo’ who sees how his brother collects the successes while he navigates second-tier teams.

Inter Milan will face Manchester City in the final of the Champions League on Saturday June 10 at 2:00 p.m. (Ecuador time). The game will air on ESPN and Star Plus.
