“After additional medical evaluations, Simone Biles withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics all around individual final to focus on her mental health. Simone will continue to be evaluated on a daily basis to determine whether or not she will participate in next week’s individual finals”, reads a note posted on the US gymnastics team’s Twitter account.”
“We support Simone’s decision with all our heart and applaud her courage to prioritize her well-being. Her courage once again shows why she is an example to so many people,” the USA Gymnastics statement continues. .
Biles will be replaced by partner Jade Carey.
“As soon as I step into the practicable, it’s just me and my head dealing with demons […]. I have to do what is best for me and focus on my mental health and not compromise my health and well-being”, said this Tuesday, at a press conference, the four-time Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics.
Simone Biles, who at Rio2016, in addition to winning the gold medal for teams, also won Olympic titles in the complete competition and in two apparatuses (jumping and solo), is qualified for the five individual finals of the Tokyo2020 Games.
