Silver Nipkow Disc this year goes to Letters to Andalusia | NOW

The Silver Nipkow Disc will go to the six-part travel series this year Letters to Andalusia of the VPRO. Creator Stef Biemans received the award on Thursday from Renate van der Bas and Vincent Bijlo in Het Ketelhuis in Amsterdam

The jury said that viewers firstly get to know Andalusia: “Attractive but poor, beautifully portrayed here. And most importantly, you learn what it means to be a refugee.”

The program defeated the drama series Eye apples from BNNVARA and Front reports from BNNVARA.

The Silver Travel Microphone for the best radio program or the best radio maker went to the podcast Virus Stories, which has been published twice a week since March 30. “The podcast is beautifully radiophonic”, the jury judges about the program around the corona time.

Special mentions were made for the television program 100 days for the class (VPRO) and radio maker Sagid Carter (3FM and VPRO).

Last month it was announced that Matthijs van Nieuwkerk would receive the Honorary Silver Nipkow Disc for presenting The world moves on. The last episode of the program, which was shown on TV for about fifteen years, was broadcast in late March.

The Honorary Silver Travel Microphone this year went to radio maker Peter van Bruggen.

The Silver Nipkow Disc has been awarded to the best television program of the year since 1961. The award is named after the German Paul Nipkow, who is seen as the inventor of the television. The VPRO documentary won last year Piece, for which a number of people were followed in a rehabilitation center.
