Signs warn of “high risk areas for covid” on the streets of Los Angeles • Hola News

Los Angeles, Jan 21 (EFE News) .- The advance of the coronavirus in the neighborhoods where immigrants and Latinos live in Los Angeles led a councilman this Thursday to place notices on the streets and sidewalks that warn, in different languages, that those areas they are at high risk of contagion.

Los Angeles District 1 Councilor Gil Cedillo ordered 100 bright red signs posted on the sidewalks of various Latino and Asian immigrant neighborhoods warning of the dangerousness of the pandemic and the high risk of contagion in these areas, he said. in a press release.

Signs that emulate the notices used to warn of road hazards were issued in English, Spanish, Korean and Mandarin.

Cedillo explained that his district has been seriously affected by infections and deaths from coronavirus.

The Westlake sector, where the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles is located, is the most affected in this district.

“It is essential to make people aware of the dangers that still exist during the pandemic. Conditions are not worth selling softly. Particularly in parts of my district with challenges of poverty, immigration status and density, ”Cedillo said in the statement.

Los Angeles is the focus of the coronavirus pandemic for California, and the entire United States. The county, the most populous in the country, accumulates 1,038,092 positive cases as of Wednesday. Deaths related to covid-19 reached 14,384 today.

“We believe that it is important that people know what the dangers are and the conditions in which we live so that they can do the necessary things,” said the politician.

In California, positive cases total 3,039,044 since the health emergency began in March, while deaths exceeded 35,000.

Cedillo explained that the notices are meant to inform residents about how to protect themselves from the virus by wearing masks, distancing themselves, washing hands, self-quarantining, getting tested and getting vaccinated.

“The pandemic is still dangerous and we cannot take it lightly,” stressed the councilor.
