Significantly Increase, Health Office of Sikka NTT Records Dengue Fever Reaches 50 Cases, 1 Person Dies

SIKKA – The Sikka District Health Office, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) reported that as of Monday the number of cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in the district had reached 50 cases.

“As of this afternoon, the number of dengue cases in Sikka has reached 50 cases with one death,” said Head of Sikka Health Office Petrus Herlemus in Maumere, Sikka Regency, Antara, Monday, January 17.

This number has increased significantly because it has only reached 50 cases in the middle of the month and some have died. While in the previous year no one died.

“We worked extra last year so that there were no casualties,” he said.

For those who died last week, he said, because their parents were late in bringing them to the hospital or health center for further treatment. So that when treated in a referral hospital it is difficult to be handled further.

Now, he said, there are around 16 DHF patients being treated in a number of hospitals in Sikka district, spread over two hospitals, namely the TC Hillers Hospital, totaling 14 patients, and two more patients being treated at the Lela Hospital.

Actually, the Sikka Regency Government has deployed all larvae monitors to all homes to prevent the development of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Because of that, he said, the current problem is how people keep the surrounding environment clean, so it doesn’t become a breeding ground for dengue fever mosquitoes.

He hoped that dengue cases in the district would not increase as in 2020, at which time it was the concern of the central government.
