Significantly fewer mortgages in October due to interest rate hike | Economy

Homeowners applied for far fewer mortgages last month than they did a year earlier. This is evident from the Mortgage Data Network (HDN) data. According to the agency, this is due to the further increase in mortgage interest rates.

31,470 mortgages were requested in October. It was 45 percent less than in October last year and a third less than the average of recent years.

According to HDN, this is due to the higher mortgage interest rate. In October, many rates, for example for those who want to fix their interest rate for ten years, increased by about 0.5 percentage points.

This has resulted in less enthusiasm among homebuyers and homeowners to take out a new mortgage. This affects both people who have bought a new home and those who wanted extra money for a renovation. The number of transfers also decreased.
