“significant increase” in cases, two TGV medicalized on Sunday

The Regional Health Agency was holding a press conference this Friday afternoon to take stock of the coronavirus epidemic. Here are the main elements:

Update on the number of cases

New Aquitaine, “long spared”, records “a significant increase” in cases of coronavirus, said Michel Laforcade, director general of the Regional Health Agency. This Friday morning at 10 am: the region had 1,173 cases of contamination, an increase of 156 cases in 24 hours.

While for several days, New Aquitaine recorded around 30 cases per day, the number grew to exceed 100 last week, and 150 for three days.

On Friday at 10 a.m., 442 patients were hospitalized, 120 of whom were in intensive care. Of the 561 intensive care beds available to hospitals in the region, 188 were available on Friday afternoon.

Two new outbreaks have been reported in Gironde, in a Travelers area in Saint-Jean-D’Illac and in Libourne.

In addition, the arrival of people in their second homes at the start of the containment has had no major effect in the region. “But it is not certain that this will not happen one day.”

One point per department and with a more recent report will be communicated at the end of the day.

Update on the number of deaths

39 people have died from coronavirus in the region since the start of the epidemic. In 24 hours, 13 deaths were recorded.

The point in the Ehpad

The Regional Health Agency has expressed concern about the Ehpad, with an increasing number of establishments concerned. 29 nursing homes in the region have at least two cases, among residents and / or carers; 36 at least one case. “An important figure, but one that makes us almost optimistic,” stressed Michel Laforcade, because the rapid interventions in these establishments made it possible to avoid a rapid spread.

Four deaths have been recorded in the Ehpad since the start of the epidemic (they are counted in the 39 deaths).

Transfer of 48 patients by health train

After the transfer of twelve patients from the Grand-Est by air to Bordeaux last Saturday and this Friday, two medical TGVs will be chartered Sunday to Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

The 48 patients from the Grand-Est will be redirected to different hospitals in the region: Poitiers University Hospital (10 patients); CHU Limoges (6 patients), La Rochelle hospital (4 patients), Côte Basque hospital center in Bayonne (6 patients), Pau (at least 4 patients), Robert-Picqué military hospital in Bordeaux (7 patients ), Bordeaux-Nord clinic (3 patients), Angoulême hospital (2 patients), Niort hospital (2 patients), Libourne (2 patients). Two other places must be found.

The medicalized TGVs will stop at Poitiers station in Bordeaux and go to Bayonne. The operation was requested by the Ministry of Health this Friday morning very early and managed in a very short time by the ARS Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
