Siemens increases sales in Switzerland and drives digitalization | Press

Thanks to the stable basic business and clear growth in the digitization environment, Siemens was able to increase sales in Switzerland to 2.13 billion francs. The number of employees rose to around 5,900, compared to 5,300 in the previous year. This marked increase in the Swiss workforce is primarily due to the acquisition of Varian Medical Systems with locations in Steinhausen and Baden by Siemens Healthineers.

While the business volume benefited in the previous year from large individual projects in postal logistics and the delivery of new freight locomotives, this year the Digital Industries Software business unit, which offers digitization solutions for companies, achieved a particularly strong growth spurt. Matthias Rebellius, who is responsible for Switzerland on the global Siemens executive board, is satisfied with the 2021 fiscal year: “Practically all business units have contributed to Siemens largely achieving the goals set in Switzerland. Particularly noteworthy are the project profits in the area of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, ”says Rebellius. After the first charging station of Verkehrsbetrieb Glattal AG was commissioned at Zurich Airport, other well-known operators, like Verkehrsbetrieb Zürich and Bernmobil, have ordered Siemens charging solutions for their new electric bus fleets. The global market for charging infrastructure will grow in the double-digit range over the next few years. “We have built up a first-class and comprehensive portfolio in order to benefit from this growth,” says Matthias Rebellius, who heads the relevant Siemens Smart Infrastructure division as CEO worldwide. “We want to promote the electric mobility business in Switzerland as well and continuously expand our market share.”

Siemens is playing a key role in digitizing infrastructure in Switzerland and driving decarbonization. The company is present in all parts of the country and at over 20 locations and has a strong market position in building technology and energy distribution (Smart Infrastructure) as well as in industrial and drive technology (Digital Industries). Siemens also has a leading market position in rail technology (Siemens Mobility), in sorting and storage technology (Siemens Logistics) and in road traffic technology (Yunex Traffic). The independent companies Siemens Energy and Siemens Healthineers are also present in the country as leading providers of energy generation and medical technology.

The global activities of Siemens Smart Infrastructure (SI) are controlled from the headquarters in Zug. Matthias Rebellius is CEO of this global business with around 70,000 employees.
